Rail travel is almost nine times greener than by car on the Top 100 business routes new figures show
- New carbon data shows that you can substantially decrease emissions if you switch from car to train for business travel across Britain.
- Taking the train on the top 100 business routes in Britain is:
- o Almost nine times greener than using a petrol/diesel car
- o More than four times greener than using a plug-in hybrid electric car
- o Almost two-and-a-half times greener than using a battery electric car
- This is the first time the rail industry has combined granular data on train occupancy, fuel type, exact journey distance and many other factors to create detailed, accurate and reliable carbon emission data for rail business travel.
- Later this year we will be releasing carbon data for all point-to-point rail business routes across Britain.
Over half of UK trains upgraded or replaced to improve travel for customers
- Over 132-miles worth of new or refurbished passenger trains added to our tracks in last 10 years – equivalent to the length of 2,300 football pitches

- Research shows that staff wearing cameras decreases assault rate by nearly 50 per cent and has “a substantial impact on court outcomes”
- Body-worn cameras have a powerful impact in stopping assaults from happening, by acting as a visible deterrent
- Rail industry plans to have more than 12,200 body-worn cameras in operation by frontline staff by the end of January 2024

Customer advice ahead of the latest train drivers’ strike
- ASLEF will stage three one-day strikes across different train operating companies between 5 to 8 April, as well as an overtime ban across 16 train companies from Thursday 4 to Saturday 6 April and from Monday 8 to Tuesday 9 April, which may lead to short-notice cancellations;
- Revised timetables for the strikes are available now on National Rail Enquiries and journey planners;
- Customers are urged to check before they travel as there will be changes to services across large parts of the network, with some train operators not running any services on strike days;
- Customers who have to travel should expect disruption, plan ahead and check when their first and last train will depart.
