The important role played by the railway and the women who helped keep it running during World War I is told in an exhibition which can be seen by visitors to Manchester Piccadilly station until 11 December.
As the nation prepares for the period of remembrance, the rail industry is continuing its support for Britain’s armed forces through its free rail travel scheme for Poppy Day volunteers.
Commenting on the opening of the new rail link between Oxford and London, Michael Roberts, director general of the Rail Delivery Group, which represents Network Rail and train operators, said:
Passengers will soon be able to find out how often a specific train was on time over several months under plans unveiled by rail industry leaders.
