For public fares, children up to 6 years old travel free (providing a separate seat is not required). Children up to 14 years old are eligible for a 50% reduction on the adult fare. Persons aged 14 and older pay the adult fare.

On international journeys children under 10 years of age cannot travel without an adult. Changes (refund and new ticket sale) to international tickets purchased at ticket offices in Hungary can only be made on the same day as purchase and at the same station.

FIP facilities on MÁV domestic services are subject to the following supplements and reservation charges.

MÁV smartphone app

MAV provides FIP discounted facilities through their mobile app called MÁV. The default language is Hungarian. You can change to English. Go to Menu > Choose Beállítások (settings) > Choose Nyelv (language) > Choose English (pop up) > Click in OK in the new pop up to restart the MÁV application. When purchasing a ticket, a code will be sent to active the ticket. The code is not valid for travel. The ticket must be generated from the code.

Mobile tickets valid only for domestic journeys are acceptable only within the application (i.e. you cannot print out the booking – you must display it within the app). Tickets purchased through the app do not contain the usual FIP protections so may not be changeable or refundable.
