Purpose

The Rolling Stock Strategy Steering Group (RSSSG) brings together senior representatives of passenger owning groups, Network Rail and ROSCOs to produce projections on future requirements of rolling stock and offer views on other high-level rolling stock issues, in turn providing inputs for industry planning and technical strategy.

The group also identifies areas where rolling stock efficiency can be improved, particularly where these involve ROSCOs, train operating companies and Network Rail working together.

The key deliverable of RSSSG is the annual publication of the Long Term Passenger Rolling Stock Strategy.

Outputs

Every year, RSSSG publishes a new edition of the Long Term Passenger Rolling Stock Strategy. It sets out a range of forecasts for the likely size and mix of the national rolling stock fleet to accommodate future passenger numbers over 30 years.
