Status Passes

This page is only relevant to some safeguarded employees. This page is not relevant to those holding the Rail Staff Leisure Card or RST Online Leisure Card.

Gold Status Passes

Gold Status Passes issued to:

  • active staff provide unlimited free leisure and residential (but not duty) travel. The residential availability will be confirmed by an endorsement on the pass.
  • retired staff and dependants of active and retired staff provide unlimited free leisure travel

This travel covers:

  • The National Rail network
  • Some inter-available TfL rail services
  • Sleeping berths (if endorsed "All Stations and in Sleeping Berths")
  • Selected Caledonian MacBrayne Clyde services (routes 13-15 only as outlined in the Caledonian MacBrayne section of this guide)
  • Tyne and Wear Metro services

Gold Status Passes are not valid for travel on Wightlink services. Where an employee entered service prior to 1 April 1985 and has a Staff Travel Card with endorsement NIL, 2 or 3, then it is the Staff Travel Card which provides travel facilities on Wightlink services.

Silver Status Passes

Silver Status Passes issued to:

  • If endorsed "Available also on specified Caledonian MacBrayne Clyde Services", then selected Caledonian MacBrayne Clyde services. (This is limited to routes 13-15 only as outlined in the Caledonian MacBrayne section of this guide)
  • Tyne and Wear Metro services (unless endorsed "Not Valid on T&W Metro")

Silver Status pass is valid on lines in unfaded colours on the map and to/from any stations in black and not crossed out except from Euston Square to Baker Street which is not valid.

Blue Status Passes

Blue Status Passes issued to:

  • active staff provide unlimited free leisure and residential (but not duty) travel. The residential availability will be confirmed by an endorsement on the pass.
  • retired staff and dependants of active and retired staff provide unlimited free leisure travel

This travel covers:

  • National rail services in the region for which the pass is issued and in the class shown
  • Some inter-available TfL rail services in the region for which the pass is issued

Blue Status Passes must not be used as a gate pass in areas in which they are not valid for travel when travelling with other facilities such as dated Staff Travel Card boxes or staff discounted (priv rate) tickets.

Blue Status Passes are not valid for travel on Wightlink services. Where an employee entered service prior to 1 April 1985 and has a Staff Travel Card with endorsement NIL, 2 or 3, then it is the Staff Travel Card which provides travel facilities on Wightlink services.

Blue Status Pass Regions

As well as the availability detailed below, Blue status passes are valid on through services which operate from a station within their own Region, into a neighbouring Region and then back into their own Region, on condition that the holder does not alight at any point within the neighbouring region in question.

Blue Status Passes Eastern Region

Between all stations on the former Eastern and Anglia Regions and on Tyne and Wear Metro services (unless endorsed "Not Valid on T&W Metro").

Boundary stations
With the former London Midland Region: Carlisle, Skipton, Burnley Manchester Road (via Hebden Bridge only), Manchester (via Hebden Bridge, Marsden or Dore only), Chesterfield, Nottingham (via Mansfield only), Newark Castle, Aslockton, Stamford, Crouch Hill, Wapping.
With the former Scottish Region: Berwick-upon-Tweed, Carlisle.

London Underground services availability
Metropolitan and District Lines:

Moorgate to Kings Cross.
Tower Hill to Upminster, but not to alight/board between Tower Hill and Bow Road.
Northern Line Kings Cross to Mill Hill East or High Barnet via Archway, but not to alight/board between Kings Cross and Highgate.
Central Line Liverpool Street to Epping or Hainault, via Woodford or Newbury Park, but not to alight/board between Liverpool Street and Stratford.
Piccadilly Line Finsbury Park to Kings Cross but not for alighting/boarding in between.
Victoria Line Finsbury Park or Highbury & Islington to Kings Cross.
Docklands Light Railway Tower Gateway to Limehouse.

Blue Status Passes London Midland Region

Between all stations on the former London Midland Region. Only valid on Chiltern Railways services south of Banbury and into Marylebone if "Available also on Chiltern Line services" is specified on the Pass.

Passes that are specified as Available also on Chiltern Line service are also valid on London Underground Metropolitan Line from Baker Street to Amersham, Chesham or Watford but not immediately between Baker Street and Harrow-on-the-Hill.

South Acton is the boundary with the former Southern Region. London Midland Blue Status Passes are valid to Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens and Richmond only if specified on the pass.

Between all stations on the former Scottish Region and if endorsed "Available also on specified Caledonian MacBrayne Clyde Services", then selected Caledonian MacBrayne Clyde services. (This is limited to routes 13-15 only as outlined in the Caledonian MacBrayne section of this guide)

Blue Status Passes Southern Region

Between all stations on the former Southern Region. Two easements have been agreed:

  • into St Pancras as when High Speed 1 was opened many services from Kent were divered away from traditional London Terminus stations.
  • the link between Farringdon and St Pancras, as Farringdon was the previous boundary and many services now terminate at St Pancras.

Blue Status Passes Western Region

Between all stations on the former Western Region.

Western Region Blue Status Passes are valid at Notting Hill Gate only to change trains.

Ealing Broadway or West Ruislip to White City and in the case of through journeys between East Acton or westwards and Paddington; also between White City and Notting Hill Gate, but not to alight/board between White City and Notting Hill Gate or at Notting Hill Gate.
